When the operator is applied to a pointer value of type (T *), the language dereferences the pointer and applies the . member access operator (so x- m is equivalent to (*x).m).

      edit Operator overloading
      Operator overloading (less commonly known as ad-hoc polymorphism ) is a specific case of polymorphism (part of the OO nature of the language) in which some or all operators like or are treated as polymorphic functions and as such have different behaviors depending on the types of its arguments. Operator overloading is usually only syntactic sugar . It can easily be emulated using function calls. Consider this operation: a + b × c Using operator overloading permits a more concise way of writing it, like this: a, operator_multiply b,c (Assuming the operator has higher precedence than Operator overloading provides more than an aesthetic benefit since the language allows operators to be invoked implicitly in some circumstances. Problems and critics to the use of operator overloading arise because it allows programmers to give operators completely free functionality, without an imposition of coherency that permits to consistently satisfy user/reader expectations, usage of the operator is an example of this problem.

Description
Haskell is one of the leading languages for teaching functional programming, enabling students to write simpler and cleaner code, and to learn how to structure and reason about programs. This introduction is ideal for beginners: it requires no previous programming experience and all concepts are explained from first principles via carefully chosen examples. Each chapter includes exercises that range from the straightforward to extended projects, plus suggestions for further reading on more advanced topics. The author is a leading Haskell researcher and instructor, well-known for his teaching skills. The presentation is clear and simple, and benefits from having been refined and class-tested over several years. The result is a text that can be used with courses, or for self-learning. Posts: n/a Newbe-books Hi,
I'm newbe of python, but not of programming (a lot of Matlab, some
C, a bit of C++), I want a *good* book on python for self-study.
I'm short of money, I don't want to make any mistakes, so does
anybody have any suggestions (buy this-don't buy that)?
Thanx,

Work through the official tutorial; start converting the more self-contained of your Matlab code to Python; ask questions here, on the Tutor list[1], and the SciPy list as appropriate. Read the source code of the packages you think you'll be using: you'll get a better idea of how to code in Pythonic (or SciPythonic) idiom this way. In my experience, this "jump right in, the water's warm" approach obviates much of the need for an introductory dead-tree book on the language. Which isn't to say that such books aren't good or worthwhile

  • It's an easy way to save the videos you like locally. You can save the videos in order to watch them offline. If all you want is to hear the audio, you can download the MP3!
Which version should I choose?
  • If you want to view the video on your PC, XBox or Media Center, download the High Quality WMV file (this is the highest quality version we have available). If you'd like a lower bitrate version, to reduce the download time or cost, then choose the Medium Quality WMV file. If you have a Zune, iPhone, or iPod device, choose the MP4 file. If you just want to hear the audio of the video, choose the MP3 file. High Quality WMV Medium Quality WMV
Welcome to a new technical series on Channel 9 folded into a different kind of 9 format: C9 Lectures. These are what you think they are, lectures. They are not conversational in nature (like most of what you're used to on 9), but rather these pieces are entirely focused on education, coming to you in the form of a series of high quality technical lectures (1 or more per topic) on a single topic.
We kick off C9 Lectures with a journey into the world of Functional Programming with functional language purist and high priest of the lambda calculus, Dr.
